The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Midnight Edition and The Colorado Z71 Trail Boss Are On The Move

The one and only real newcomer to the segment of the not so popular mid sized trucks was the Colorado. The GM built mid-sized “things-hauler” was praised for a lot of its virtues by the majority of automotive journalist who drove it, but the sales results in the past half of a year or so didn’t actually prove the truck is capable of attracting new buyers as Chevrolet officials stated upon revealing. It lagged behind the Toyota Tacoma (the old one) and it didn’t lag a bit, but by a huge margin. Some said that Chevrolet actually didn’t start with all around offensive with the Colorado. They’ll do it a bit later – maybe just in time when the new Tacoma (scheduled for 2016, but already revealed) comes to the market.

All in all, the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado is definitely the most luxurious, upscale and almost posh mid size pickup truck in the segment. That, however, didn’t stop the Chevrolet to offer the special version (many of them actually, including this one) of the 2015 Truck Of The Year by Motor Trend winner. They’ve revealed the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Midnight Edition and the Colorado Z71 Trail Boss. These are the baddest of the bad (as The Reverend Horton Heat would say in their song that bears the same name). Actually, the song The Reverend Horton Heat performs somehow suits the badass character of this midsized truck.

The Midnight Edition is nothing more than painting all the things black. Literally, they’ve blacked out the *hit of the Colorado. If we are to find the perfect guy to drive this thing than it’d had to be the Ghostface from the Scream. It would fit in perfectly. He could drive around with 1.590 lbs worth of bodies in the spray-in Bedliner. So, the bedliner is black, the Chevrolet bowtie too, along with tonneau cover, sill plates and the 18 inch wheels. Apparently, the interior didn’t receive any notable improvements, but you should be able to get it as black as possible. What is more important is that the Midnight Edition is available with all sorts of versions and body configurations as long as you opted for the mid-level LT trim.

On the other hand, the top notch Z71 has a special Trail Boss ornamentation which means it received all the nice things you’d opt for if you need a powerful off road truck. The wheels aren’t 18 inch, but 17 inch with special Goodyear Wrangler DuraTec 265/65R17 all-terrain tires. The sport bar with LED trail lighting will make this thing unmistakably recognizable, while the “bold fender flares and tubular assist steps” add up to the whole off road character this thing has in spades.

Not only that both of these versions will be available with the 3,6 liter V6, but you could get a Duramax 2.8 liter turbodiesel with 2WD or 4WD and with the extended and crew cab bodies.

We aren’t so sure Colorado sales will kick off after the introduction of these two, but some reports suggest that the reasons for slow sales might not even be the lack of interest of the customers. Reports suggest that the Colorado isn’t actually abundant on the lots. It may be that they aren’t yet producing them as many as the market would like. So, the people simply don’t have a truck to buy and all that is produced is sold in matter of hours. All in all, the Colorado is here to stay and many versions prove that the mid-size truck segment may have been reinventing itself. After the Colorado we expect the new Tacoma to storm the market and then the new Frontier will be the latest to come.

About Safet Satara

I do not have spare time. All there is is car time. 12 years and counting. I am a Central European gearhead, but you are probably thinking - aaa a disposable Borg drone! Well, actually, I like to dress up like James Bond too. The only thing I need to be him is an Aston Martin (and I love DBS more than DB5 because, reasons). That's something I guess.
