Revealed: The Ghost In The Shell Motorcycle! It’s A Honda…But What Honda?

We’ve already seen trailers featuring the Ghost In The Shell motorcycle but now we know exactly what it is. When we first saw the trailer, we thought it was just something dreamed up by the prop department with a Honda logo emblazoned across it – a bit of a prime product placement stunt that associated a name with a thing. But now we know that the thing is actually Honda’s very own NM4 Vultus concept, wearing new clothes of course.

It’s not the first time that we’ve seen the Honda NM4 Vultus wearing interesting new clothes though. In fact, over the past few years master concept designer Tamus Jakus of Jakusa Design has put the Vultus into some seriously interesting pictures. We’ve seen one rigged up as an alternative version of the Batcycle, and we’ve also seen one that looks like it has been bio-engineered to replicate the look of Ultron from the Avengers franchise. This isn’t a Jakusa design. It’s not DC or Marvel either. It’s almost 100% Honda, and it’s definitely from the wonderful world of Manga.

Introducing The Ghost In The Shell Motorcycle: The Honda NM4 Vultus

To take the starring role as the Ghost In The Shell motorcycle of choice, Honda gave their full support to the movie makers and Dreamworks and Paramount Pictures. Honda gave them a bike to play with, and even provided some design sketches to help marry the two Japanese icons together in the best possible way. Naturally, the film’s design department made a few tweaks and had the final say, but the overall result is something striking, futuristic, potentially iconic, and definitely cool.

The Honda NM4 Vultus seems to have a broad appeal with the film industry, making it a versatile platform to work with. In fact, the original NM4 design (first launched in 2014) took a lot of inspiration from another iconic Manga film: Akira. Akira was also set in a dystopian future like Ghost In The Shell… So if the worlds starts going to shit and you feel like taking a starring role, it seems like the NM4 Vultus is your ideal weapon of choice. In the transport department, that is.

So there you have it. The Ghost In The Shell motorcycle is the humble Honda NM4 Vultus. Now you can wow your friends with that bit of trivia knowledge without having to go see the movie. It’s had mixed reviews, so it’s up to you if you want to give it a watch. Nothing ever beats the original in my opinion, but if cyberpunk dystopian futures, Scarlett Johansson, and Takeshi Kitano are your thing, then go see it later on this month.

About Joe Appleton

I’ve done a bit of work here and there in the industry – I’ve even ridden a few bikes for actual money but what it comes down to is this: I ride bikes, build bikes and occasionally crash ‘em too. I like what I like but that certainly doesn’t make my opinion any more valid than yours…
