GM Will Sell A Stock Vehicle With Engine Producing Insane 910 LB-FT Thanks To Ram Air Effect

Yes, it is for trucks, it is a diesel engine and it will not be the torquiest out there. Ford SuperDuty diesel engine can twist it up to 925 lb-ft.

All the mighty numbers are part of an all new GM diesel engine specifically created for the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models. New 6.6 liter V8 will churn out 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. That is a lot by any measure and it simply dwarfs everything GM did before with its engines for Heavy-Duty use.

Some sources report GM succeeded in creating such a powerful machine in part thanks to a redesigned intake system. The most important part of it is re-calibrated large scoop on the bonnet (more on that here). You can see it on the pictures. It channels air more directly thus creating sort of Ram-Air effect. In essence, the engine use more air than before. Ram air scoop creates higher static air pressure inside of the intake manifold.This translates to more air in the cylinder, and a bigger bang. Sure, it works the best at higher speeds when vehicle’s motion actually picks up air.

Smart engineering went into this as GM had to ensure best possible air/water separation.

L5P 6.6L Duramax V-8 for the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and Sierra models leaked on a GM Powertrain website. We have found out that the peak torque is available at 1,600 rpm. The 445hp, on the other hand comes at 2,800 rpm.
