2000 hp Gallardo Challenges a Souped Up ‘Stang in Texas

The Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas recently hosted the third TX2K drag racing event. It’s a pretty great way for speedsters to put the pedal to the metal in a safer environment than the actual streets; the raceway has a 4400 foot track and, obviously, no traffic. But, a couple of guys decided to take their battle to the streets, and film it for posterity. It seems fairly ill-advised to take a 2000 hp Lambo and a Mustang with an 88 mm turbo and race them on the open road, but it does make for compelling viewing. Even though the Mustang is a pretty fierce beast, it’s no match for the Lambo.

This video gave me serious heart palpitations. While I cannot condone illegal drag racing, I also can’t deny that this is a pretty exciting match-up. Strap yourself in and check out the video below.

The Car scene is so diverse Where I come from, most enthusiasts recognize the amazing engineering (particularly the engines). The bulk of the ridicule originates from the manner in which many of the vehicles are modded/maintained. Thus, the jokes and or hate tends to be aimed more at the owner rather than the machine. All of which makes seeing properly sorted old Toyota's and Hondas at car meets, auto shows, and track days all the more refreshing.
