Hyundai decided to go with the Sonata Sedan for their first hybrid car and did pretty well with the exterior design of the 2012 Sonata Hybrid.  I’ve never been a fan of the looks of most Hyundai cars but while it closely resembles the looks of the regular Sonata, they did a great job sleeking it up, making it very aerodynamic, and somewhat luxurious looking.  The exterior design of the Sonata Hybrid has the lowest drag in its class at 0.25.  The car also features nice LED headlights and tail lights.

With the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid’s lithium-polymer battery, there is extra room for seating.  It includes 5 ergonomically-designed seats and more room than both the 2012 Toyota Camry and 2012 Ford Focus hybrid.  The interior has a nice design with digital readout, twin gauges that display hybrid performance.  While there isn’t too much to brag about the interior for the basic package, there are many nice options that can be added.

 

Price

The MSRP for the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is $25,850 and costs about $6,000 more than the regular Sonata but definitely a great price for the vehicle which makes it a great competitor with other 2012 affordable hybrid sedans.

Safety

The Hyundai Sonata has received one of the only two “Top Safety Pick” awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The car also has a five-star overall safety rating from the federal government under its new crash-test procedures.

Summary

Other than not perfecting the “Blue Drive” smoothness and efficiency in town driving, Hyundai couldn’t have done much better for their first affordable hybrid.  This is a great car when you consider the price.  The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is definitely the car for those that are on a budget or travel much on a highway.  I would put the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid up in the top three for best affordable hybrid sedans any day!
