This isn’t Grandma’s Buick: Review of the 2017 Buick LaCrosse
Perhaps you have a memory of your sweet old grandma, picking you up from school in her extremely large (but also comfortable) Buick, before taking you out for ice cream. It’s a memory you hold close, but now re-work that memory. Instead of that big, bulky, unstylish Buick, your grandma’s picking you up in something much more stylish, with sleek lines, alloy wheels, and chrome handles. Other kids are pointing their fingers, mouths-agape, as you step into the car with dear old grandma and speed away.
Well, every kid has their dreams, and although that might not have been real for you or me, it could be for future children. The new 2017 Buick Lacrosse has discarded the bulkiness of the past and replaced it with a leaner, more streamlined edition that doesn’t do away with Buick’s trademark comfort, but at least, makes comfort much more pleasing to view (not that grandma’s old Buick wasn’t a beauty of course.)
While updating this specific model, Buick also appears to be updating its brand, starting with the logo. The new three-color tri-shield logo which hasn’t been seen since the 1960’s is back, heralding major changes for the brand in the future. The new Lacrosse is based on the Avenir inspired sheet-metal that premiered at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, a thinner, sleeker design than what we’re used to seeing from Buick. If you’re thinking that maybe one of your teenagers may be practicing with the new car, the 2017 Lacrosse features Teen Driver feature that enables the car to give report cards for a new driver’s on-road habits.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Buick if it wasn’t one of the more comfortable cars on the road. The 2017 Lacrosse features both heating and massaging seats for the driver and front passenger. Don’t be surprised if your spouse has to drag you out of the car when you get to your destination, though. They really are that comfortable.
If you’re planning on making a road trip, there is plenty of storage space as is to be expected with a Buick. Buick’s are already known for having plenty of space, but the 2017 Lacrosse will have 7 percent more space than its predecessor. The new V-6 comes with cylinder deactivation, which will help with improved fuel economy. The eight-inch touchscreen comes with ports that will allow you to connect your Apple or Android mobile advice to it via USB.
Going to be driving on a variety of road surfaces? One of the coolest features of the 2017 Buick Lacrosse is Continuous Damping Control, which changes the cars damping every two seconds. So if you work within the smooth paved roads of the city but live in the rougher, country roads away from the hustle and bustle, the new 2017 Buick Lacrosse will adjust accordingly.
Overall, despite all these new features, the 2017 Buick Lacrosse is actually 300 pounds lighter than its predecessor. It’s comfortable, nice to look at, and has enough new features to raise the tech junkie’s blood pressure. Of course, if this new car is for grandma, she probably won’t mind all the new features either (even if it takes her years to figure them all out.)
