The BMW 1 Series M Coupe Alpha-N Performance Is A New Sports Car Nemesis
As a specialty tuner of BMW vehicles, Alpha-N Performance from Germany recently revealed a whole new tuning kit for the magnificent BMW 1 Series M Coupe. While this car is probably one of the best creations of the BMW M division, tuners wanted to spruce it up a bit for a fight against proper sports cars such as the Jaguar F-Type Coupe R or the Mercedes-AMG GT. Of course, its small footprint, fairly light architecture, and classic BMW quality certainly qualify it for a serious tuning job.
The three-liter engine develops 340hp as stock, but Alpha-N Performance team took all to a whole new level and gave it a thorough tuning job. The first step was to integrate a much larger turbocharger which subsequently required for Alpha-N Performance to change a whole lot of features in and around the engine.
First of, the new intercooler found its way inside to cool all that newly added stuff. Other changes included the integration of a unique exhaust. Apparently, Alpha-N developed it in-house to provide the car with much smoother sound and additionally improve the engine. As expected, new fuel pump, performance spark plugs, and all new ignition coil rounded the stuff up.
Massive changes released 564 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, thus making the three-liter engine almost as powerful as the engine in the Ferrari 458 Italia. Considering that this powerful engine is in the small 1 series, these figures are astonishing to say the least.
The task of putting all this power to its use had the engineers improve the clutch by installing a race-type clutch and linking it to an all new single-mass flywheel for better responsiveness and better power delivery to the wheels. At last, the suspension was updated by Ohlins adjustable dampers and springs in order to make sure the 1 Series M Coupe can proudly face the best sports cars of today.
