The Audi Crosslane Concept Coupe. The Total Package.
During this year’s Paris Auto Show, automaker Audi stepped up with a very bold looking statement of a car that got
everyone in attendance to stand up and take notice.
The Audi Crosslane Concept Coupe is something that is new, but has a very old school premise behind it, but the designers, and developers at Audi would say otherwise. This new Audi concept embodies what it would feel like to drive a two door cross-over style of vehicle, that had the ability to lose the top, and enjoy the refreshing feeling of open air driving. The Audi Crosslane Concept Coupe, is a platform that Audi hopes to use in some of it’s near future production cars. For example, the Crosslane (If produced) will share a chassis platform with the new Q2, set to arrive, summer of next year. If anything the Audi Q2 will potentially have a slightly shortened wheelbase, and will contend with the likes of the Nissan Juke & Rouge, or possibly even the Mini Countryman, and maybe the Fiat 500L. Either way Audi is looking to branch out so as to have a fair stake in as many car selections as possible.
Now getting back to the Audi Crosslane Concept Coupe, like all Audi’s the front fascia is very “In your face”, and bold looking. The Crosslane has a very wide Sumo-ish type stance to it. It doesn’t look mean or angry, or overly aggressive like other concepts. The Crosslane has a look of that of the 300pd bouncer you saw at the club last week. All business, and No nonsense. That simple “Cut to the chase” attitude plays out when you follow the lines to the rear of the car. Two fairly long doors, invite you in to try, and figure out what’s really going on with this new car. Before you take your seat, you notice the huge missing section of the roof, and then think, “OK, it’s a roadster.” Nope, it’s a true convertible, the missing roof section is completely removable, and made of Carbon Fiber. Where it goes exactly, is still a mystery as of now, but keep in
mind, that it is a concept after all. The interior of the Audi Crosslane Concept Coupe has been tastefully done in a two tone leather color scheme that does nothing but make the eyes, pop, and the mouth water.
Potential power for the Audi Crosslane Concept Coupe will come by the means of a hybrid drive system that incorporates not one, but three(3) motors. The first of three will be a 1.5L, three(3) cylinder engine, capable of making 127hp, an electric motor making 67hp, and then wrapping up the bundle, is a traction motor making 114hp. This small gathering of power will enable the Crosslane to achieve an estimated 257MPG. Which are some outstanding numbers to think about. Audi reps even speculated that the
Crosslane can travel at 53mph for a great distance in EV mode alone. Audi hopes that the exhibition of the Crosslane Concept will entice buyers to look to Audi in the near future, instead of it’s Japanese counter parts.
