The 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe R-Spec. The SEMA Project.
A few months ago, I brought the Hyundai Genesis Coupe RMR Edition to Gearheads.org, and loved every minute of writing that article, to then share it with all of you avid readers. This time around I’m here to do it again, and with an even more awe inspiring version of the Genesis Coupe to drool over.
Most of us Gearheads out there know that there is a small, but genuine war going on amongst the new rear wheel drive cars on the roads right now. You have the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe R-Spec, and it’s twin rivals, the 2012 Subaru BRZ, and 2012 Scion FR-S, going at it for bragging rights, and such. The tuner world, and news articles alike have been praising the invigorating feeling of being able to drive an official, and affordable RWD sports car, but what of the Genesis? Why haven’t we heard to much from Hyundai about this? I’ll answer that question in a hot second.
The 2013 Hyundai Genesis has been laying low for the time being, and for good reason. It has been worked, and then reworked, and then tweaked a little by a professional driver by the name of Rhys Millen, who has been putting the Genesis Coupe through it’s paces day in, and day out for quite some time now. The popularity of the RMR Genesis Coupe has spawned some private sectors to become a lot more interested in the Genesis for their own private racing groups, and one of them is called ARK Performance.
ARK Performancehas been building, and customizing parts for Hyundai for awhile now, and they needed a way to get their name on the big screen of sorts, and what better way to pull that off? Go big at the SEMA Show this year. The techs at AP (ARK Performance) decided to use a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe R-Spec to do all the dirty work of buttering up the judges at SEMA while at the same time letting the general public know about who they are. Now simply throwing a kit on, and walking away would not even come close to doing it for these guys. The engine was modified so that it produces more power, and torque, the suspension was tweaked to give it that killer stance, the two tone racing paint scheme was
applied for that “Ultimate Racer” look, and a set of wheels were added to complete the exterior package. Inside of the AP Coupe, is a secret for now, or until at least the car is unveiled at SEMA next month in October. After it’s all said and done, you will be looking at a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Ark Performance R-Spec Track Car that will be running with over 395hp, and 340lb ft. of torque. An absolute monster to say the least. So be sure to look for it the SEMA show, and let them know that a Gearhead told you about it.
