Most Expensive Ever $400,000 Toyota Tacoma is Heading to Auction
This is not your average Tacoma, mind you. This is one-off Polar Expedition Concept which tackled icy trails of Antarctica back in 2011 on an expedition to reach the South Pole. And it did reach it. Expedition leader Jason De Carteret, engineer Kieron Bradley, and writer Jason Thomas actually set the world record for fastest overland journey to the South Pole in it. It only took them one day, 15 hours and 54 minutes to trek across 700 miles in ruthlessly extreme conditions where temperatures have been known to drop to -128 degree Fahrenheit. Who says Tacoma is less capable than Hilux, now? If it managed to conquer one of globe’s poles, it shouldn’t have any trouble with anything you have to throw at it.
It was Reykjavik, Iceland-based shop Arctic Trucks that assembled the Polar. These Tacoma and Hilux converting maestros have already helped Top Gear crew reaching the North Pole, so they’ve now basically completed the full circle. Polar is fitted with humongous 44-inch Mickey Thompson Icepack tires, heavily revised winch-fitted front end, and 330-gallon fuel tank at its hump. It’s also wrapped in NATO Green vinyl which helps preserving the precious heat in extreme arctic conditions.
Power comes from 4.0L V6 mill with TRD supercharger which is capable of putting up 380 horses. These are routed to all four wheels (naturally) via an automatic transmission. What’s even better, Tacoma Polar only has 14,600 miles on its odometer, and although mostly used in extreme conditions (as intended), it’s still a relatively new car in more than solid shape.
Polar is hitting Barrett-Jackson’s Northeast 2016 event scheduled to take place between June 23 and June 25, in Uncasville, Connecticut. Pickup took $400,000 in order to be assembled, but who can say how much it’s going to end up costing. If you’re interested, you should know that it comes with OMP WRC seats, Sabelt harnesses, and a roll cage inside, so it’s not exactly a luxury car. It wasn’t exactly intended to be one in any case. It is its extreme capability that counts here.
