GMC Recall Affects Almost Half Million Cars
In the ‘just so you know’ department, there is a huge recall announced by GMC today that affects the Chevrolet Malibu, the Pontiac G6 and the Saturn
Aura. There are a total of 426,000 cars in the USA that are being recalled. The model years are from 2007 through 2010 and cars outfitted with four-speed automatic transmissions.
The issue is that the transmission is miscuing when put in park, causing the car to roll. To date there have been four accidents attributed to the problem but no fatalities or injuries.
The recall consists of GMC dealerships adding a reinforcement to the shift cable. This will apparently prevent slippage and fracturing of the transmission component. The GMC recall affects almost half million cars and certainly comes at a bad time for the struggling car maker. GMC is notifying all owners with a letter for a repair free of charge to be scheduled at their earliest convenience. And of course anyone who has paid out of pocket for the work already will be reimbursed by GMC.
So if you own a Chevy Malibu, a Pontiac G6 or a Saturn Aura model with a four speed transmission from 2007 through 2010 leave it at home. And if you insist on driving it, which I definitely don’t recommend, use your emergency brake every time you put the car in park.
