Gemballa Shows Off Custom Porsche Lineup at Geneva with New Avalanche

Gemballa is a car manufacturer located in Germany whose main goal seems to be to make the most outlandish and over-the-top cars on the road. They base their creations on Porsche models and change just about everything except the chassis. Their style is as polarizing as it is dramatic, and it spreads over every inch of their creations, inside and out. At this year’s Geneva Auto Show, along with the rest of the pack, they brought one of their newest cars out:

The Avalanche

As you can tell almost immediately, this car is based on the Porsche 911 Turbo. The car is there, at its core, but Gemballa has added a lot to an already massively powerful and stylish car. It does look like something out of a videogame, but when you are trying to stand out in a 911, why not go all the way with it? Deep-dish 21″ wheels alone won’t cut it, but they do help.

This is no bolt-on fiberglass bodykit, every body part is made completely out of carbon fiber, and very little is left untouched. Making an already wide car even wider, the fenders of this new body make it almost three inches broader up front and four inches in the rear. The aerodynamic additions may seem a bit extreme, but they are pretty necessary when you consider the performance upgrades.

With a bit off tuning to the twin-turbo flat-six engine, Gemballa has managed to get 820 horsepower down to the wheels. A 0-60 time has not yet been released, but when you consider the all-wheel drive system in the 911 Turbo along with that extra power, you can assume the results are going to be impressive.

From the gigantic exhaust tips to the distractingly gorgeous black and white interior, this car simply cannot be ignored. As easy as it is to hate loud, tuned supercars, it is important to appreciate the work that goes into making a crazy car well. The Avalanche is definitely done well.

The Mistrale

The Gemballa Mistrale, which we have seen before, is a rather dramatic take on the Panamera. The best thing about styling a Panamera is that there is not much at stake. The base car is a great performer with tons of practicality, but it is not what you would call “conventionally attractive”.

With Porsche unwilling to make the Panamera tolerably attractive, Gemballa stepped up with their own aero package made from carbon fiber. The wheels are 22″ show off the upgraded brakes nicely. The hood may be the most noticeable bit, but there is a good reason for that.

 

Beneath it sits a 745 horsepower, 4.8 liter V8 that is fed by two turbos. This is a serious power upgrade from the standard Panamera, and the new top speed is 210 miles per hour. The 3.2 second 0-60 time may be a bit jarring for the passengers, but luckily there is a lot to distract them.

 

The interior of the Panamera, in stock form, is already really impressive. That means that Gemballa had to go all-out on it to show off their own style and really emphasize that this is not your standard Porsche. Is any of this necessary in a sedan? Certainly not. Is it a thing of beauty? Nope. But it is pretty wild, and it definitely says something about the person who drives it.

The Mirage GT Carbon Edition

Last but not least, they brought along a new version of an older car from Gemballa. They have been making the Mirage for some time now, albeit in small numbers. It sits on the chassis of a Porsche Carrera GT, and uses its F1-inspired V10 with fantastic results.

With no forced induction, the V10 now makes 670 horsepower. This results in a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 208. Impressive numbers for an aging, rear-wheel drive supercar. That said, there is not much left of the Carrera GT aside from the engine and Chassis. The body is made entirely from carbon fiber, hence the name, and even the suspension has been replaced with new, adjustable-height units.

It may seem like a sin to modify a car like the Carrera GT, but Gemballa holds nothing sacred in the pursuit of speed and wild styling. Love them or hate them, it’s hard not to appreciate the fact that someone, somewhere is putting real effort into making cars that are, above all else, memorable for the passengers and onlookers alike.
