9 Most Recalled Cars in America: Are Your Friends Driving a Timebomb?

New car buyers expect a recall or two, but how about 34? And this from a brand known for quality. We’ll also show you how to check if your car’s been recalled, when it was recalled, what the recall is about, and what the dangers are if you don’t get the recall repaired.

Much has been in the news about faulty air bags and ignition switches, but two vehicles on our list have a recall for lugnuts that can come off the car (with your wheel and tire) while you’re driving.

A safety recall can be initiated by the vehicle manufacturer or ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In either case, the manufacturer must file a public report describing the safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal motor vehicle safety standard, the involved vehicle/equipments, the events that resulted in the recall determination, a description of the repair required, and a schedule for the recall. NHTSA monitors each safety recall on behalf of the consumer.
