2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus Edition Finally Brings Laser Headlights To 25 Lucky Americans
Laser headlights welcome to the US. Thanks to NHTSA, we are now fully legal to purchase cars with Laser headlights. Only 25 of us that is as only 25 units will be produced. Limited edition 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus Edition will bring this technology to us. Tricked out by Audi Exclusive, this particular R8 comes with lights that may change the way we light up roads in front of our cars. However, let us tell you one secret. Audi is not exactly the first to bring these things here. BMW did it somehow even before NHTSA made it legal with an agreement with the FDA. They revealed the car at the 2015 LA Auto Show. The Audi with laser headlights will surface at the 2016 LA Auto Show.
The thing about laser headlights is that they consume less, light up better and more precisely and can throw a beam more than 1960 feet. LEDs Audi and many others use today can light up half of that. The tech behind it all is quite mind bending. Headlights feature four laser diodes each of which emits energy eventually resulting in blue light at one point. Then, phosphor lens welcome the blue light turning it white. This, in effect, lights up 30 to 40 percent more than any other light technique in existence. All this laser thing works only above 40 mph and with high beams. Driving slowly and in the city, the R8 will switch to LED low beams.
While the laser lights seem to be the pinnacle and the glory about this particular R8, we have to note that it was actually produced to showcase the extensive range of personalization options the Audi Exclusive can offer.
See, Audi Exclusive tricked out the car. Note the carbon fiber side blade. This is a massive carbon fiber surface certainly giving character to the car. Then, Audi Exclusive placed an orange stripe on top like they are telling us this thing is fun. It seems Quantum Gray paint, although a bit stealthy, looks quite striking in this application. Massive 20-inch black wheels, then carbon fiber hardware such as a rear diffuser, front lip spoiler, side mirror housings and rear wing all give it a bit of zip.
The inside continues in the same exclusive breath. Orange stitched leather everywhere, all with quilted Alcantara headliner, “one of 25” door sill plaque, and some other Audi Exclusive surprises.
As expected, this is the top-of-the-line car with the highest trim, most powerful engine and best possible suspension setup. In short, 5.2l, V10, 610hp, 413 lb-ft of torque, seven-speed dual clutch transmission, 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.
The most important number though is $230,450. Welcome it at the 2015 Los Angeles auto show.
