2015 Bentley Continental GT Speed Fastest Production Model Yet
12 years have passed since the release of the Continental GT, 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W-12 engine that produced 414 horsepower. This year, the company’s fastest production model ever, the 2015 Bentley Continental GT Speed, will be made available to the public. This particular title is sparking the interest of many enthusiasts from all over the world.
Major Power Boost
From 414 horsepower, the new version of the Continental GT now produces an amazing 626 horsepower with an impressive 607 pound/feet of torque, and can roll easily at 1,700 RPM. The GT Speed can swiftly reach 60 mph in just 4 seconds flat, and reaches an impressive 206 mph top speed while the Convertible version clocked to reach 60 mph at 4.1, and even with its less aerodynamic features was still able to reach 203 mph top speed. This is very impressive for a car weighing 5,115 pounds (convertible) and 5,500 pounds.
Well Balanced Engine
The new Continental GT Speed’s well balanced engine can make any vehicle moving with it seem to be at a stand-still when the gas pedal is pushed further. Amazingly, even with the beastly power, the GT Speed’s W12 engine sound is not comparable to anything else. It is basically two six-cylinder VR6 engines mashed together. Bentley somehow was able to mathematically achieve supreme balance, added with an amazing exhaust which is not too rumbly like how a V8 engine sounds. The engine sound is almost refined and sedate at normal driving, but when tach needle is raised aggressively, the W12’s metallic shriek is a class of its own.
Beastly Continental Upgrade
The original Continental GT’s is still very capable of being a beast if it wants to be, but the new GT Speed is a whole new level of aggressiveness. With the shift lever set in Sport mode, the GT Speed is converted into an angry and a deeper sounding vehicle, with shifts becoming snappier. The eight-speed paddle-shifted automatic works perfectly with its W12 engine, taking advantage of the higher point outs of the engine’s power band.
Comfortable but Sporty Ride
The 2015 GT Speed is still fitted with the same hydraulic steering and suspension (air-damper), which provides a tighter and sportier feel, giving the driver a commanding iron grip in driving stance. When compared to the standard GT, the suspension height is set 0.4 inches lower and the springs are 45% stiffer. The new GT Speed also features 70% stiffer bushings, 53 % thicker anti-roll bars at the rear, and 15% more front tire cambers. The new GT Speed big bends and loves huge curves, but not so tight-fisted turns. It basically provides a more mature and knowing driving dynamics than just eager and youthful driving. Added to the feature of allowing the driver to fiddle and control the damper levels from being comfortable with being sportier via controls that are screen-based.
Surprising Fuel Consumption
When it comes to fuel mileage, many would agree that most or even all luxury or sport cars normally would record low stats because of their big and high performance engines. Surprisingly, the V8 engine of the 2015 Bentley Continental GT Speed manages its fuel consumption well. It is rated amazingly at 13/20 mpg with a 15 mpg combined record with the coupe, and a 12 mpg in the GT Speed convertible. This is very impressive since no deactivation of cylinders was done, and no hybrid action or start-stop technology was used. Though hybrid plug-in models are arriving soon that would certainly lead to better mileage. The coming plug-in types are believed to be capable of reaching 30 miles driving range, and more than enough battery supply and capacity that can smoothly power long uninterrupted driving.
Sportier Exterior Presence
The new Continental GT Speed is certainly one big brute that is always dressed for the occasion. It is fitted with an all-new front bumper that is accented with mesh grilles that covers the intakes, small winglets and also a composite splitter. The new GT Speed also sports a dark tint on the wheels, while its brake calipers are in a bright red color. The 2015 version also features an exclusive Candy Red paint with exhaust outlets (oval) that are wider than those of the standard version. The new GT Speed will sit on new 21-inch wheels wrapped with Pirelli P Zero tires. A $14,150 option can be added for carbon-ceramic brakes for more serious stopping power.
Aside from the performance and exterior upgrades the new 2015 GT Speed experienced, its cabin also gets a new touch with a dark theme interior that is dressed with contrasting colors that are applied on its doors, fascia wings, rear panels, inner console, and also the gear lever. Also available as an option, owners can customize the door panels’ quilting and also the seats to be stitched with the same color. The Speed badge placed on its dash is created from stainless steel that is injection-molded.
Precision Manufacturing Process
The body and castings are still locally manufactured, but the interior of the 2015 Bentley Continental GT Speed is still carefully handmade in Crewe. A process wherein only a wrench made with solid copper is used to assure that no scarring on the GT Speed’s engine may occur during assembly. It is such a precise process that even hides are thoroughly inspected to make sure no mosquito bite holes or marks are present before being used. The Bentley Logo located on each headrest consists of a total of 5103 stitches.
Luxury, Fun, and Function
The 2015 GT Speed is not just any luxury sport car. It has real comfortable back seats and grips the road tightly with an all-wheel all-weather drive. It also still features the same infotainment systems used by other Bentley models. The new GT Speed has finesse and luxury lavished themes extended all over the cabin.
The convertible version of the 2015 GT Speed features a thickly lined and plush top that provides a contenting job in blotting out outside road sounds. The only main concern is its size, relatively the GT Speed is a large car and so it’s folding roof. To operate the convertible top whether to open or close, the speed must be below 20 mph or make a complete stop. The whole process will take approximately a half-minute because of the huge canvas which is generally slow, especially if a sudden gush of rain occurs.
Pricing and Availability
The 2015 Bentley Continental GT Speed can be considered a beast that drives aggressively but still boast with a stance full of luxury. Its overall presence radiates gentility even when driven at astonishing speeds. The coupe version will set back buyers of about $227,600 or $250,100. This is before gas-guzzler taxes and destination. Bentley announced that the GT Speed go will be on sale by this year’s third quarter.
