2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid
Ford is smart to be following the latest hybrid movement in auto evolution. The movement itself is a huge niche to fill and Ford is accomplishing that nicely. Certainly with the coming 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid.
The first thing I thought when I saw the latest Fusion model was that it reminded me a great deal of the Aston Martin in the grille and like an Audi from there rear. Apparently I’m not alone in that opinion. The car itself got extremely positive response from the aesthetics aspect. And I will admit it’s a somewhat handsome car, but I would stop short of any excitable praise. And there has to be a wag of the finger at Ford’s laziness on the design front. Copping styling’s from existing cars does not become them. Especially when they are in the midst of suing the Chinese automaker JAC for its 4R3 pickup truck’s resemblance to the Ford F-150. Honestly, the striking and obvious similarities of the new Fusion to both the Aston Martin and the Audi are that shameful.
And as decent looking as the car is the fusion is no super model. It just simply doesn’t deserve the accolades it’s receiving. There are far better looking sedans out there in the auto world but, in a market starved for exciting styling and denied the often superior designs from Europe, it is to be expected. It’s just more of North America celebrating mediocrity.
The 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid will be offered with a smaller 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated paired with Ford’s own two-motor hybrid drive and a new lithium-ion battery pack. Ford has reported that the car may achieve as much as 47mpg. Very impressive for a sedan but we will have to see if those numbers pan out come its release in the fall. Ford will also be offering a greener than green model, the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi. This will be Ford’s branding for their plug-in hybrid models including the 2013 Ford C-Max Energi five-seat hatchback.
There will be three different performance packages to choose from. There will be the 179hp 1.6 liter and the sportier 237hp 2.0 liter four cylinder. Each of those options will be equipped with EcoBoost direct-injection and turbochargers. The third option will be the base model with the same 170hp 2.5 liter four that’s available in the current Fusion. Obviously the 1.6 liter will achieve the greatest fuel efficiency of the three and iekly will be the most popular choice for most buyers. Where the 2.0 liter will satisfy the speed demons out there who want a sedan that packs a little extra punch on the road. The 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid will no doubt sell well. It’s a dependable and familiar model for Ford that has always sold well. The Fusion will likely be even more popular now that Ford has created an even more efficient version of the hybrid model.
But Ford might want to expect some cranks calls at their head office from people with British accents saying thing like, ‘Hey Ford Fusion. Aston Martin called. They want their grille back!’
