I give Fiat a lot of shit because they were bringing a car to America and they first targeted the ladies as this car was so happy and cute. Now with slower than expected sales since the introduction they are reeling in and introducing a man version. The first commercials were with J-Lo talking about a designer special edition 500. You might as well have put Cher in a Fiat 500 with shirtless boy whores carrying the car through the fabulous streets of Chelsea. Now we as men have a need for speed and so to bring us to the circle of Fiat we need more power and black wheels and dual exhaust and rockets, yeah big fucking rockets. Ok well Fiat has decided to deliver the Abarth and placed an ad that spoke to all of us. A smokin foreign super-model, now that is more like it. In all honesty I think this is a great city car as it is nimble, small, and can be fun to drive on a daily basis. Outside the city I might be more compelled to buy a Subaru BR-Z or Scion FR-S but I have yet to drive either one. What we do know is that there will be a large third-party performance following for all three of these cars as we hope to see bigger turbos and/or turbo kits, freer flowing downpipes and up pipes, intakes, and even racing cams and complete heads. 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth Venom

Fiat 500 Abarth Venom

There has been talk of a 200HP engine in this 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth Venom and for that reason I am very interested. A car of this size with power like that is bound to make you giddy especially if you’re blasting some Wham! on the radio whilst drinking your orange mocha frappachino. This setup with that much horsepower and a track tuned suspension would make mince meat out of a lot of bigger and more powerful cars and especially if you have some sticky icky tires to boot. I just want to know when they will release the Abarth Mario Kart edition because every time I see one in my rear view mirror I am looking for turtle shells to come up my tail pipe.

So what do you think about the Fiat name in America and do you think that at a starting price of $22,000 that these are worth it. Just like you, when I saw the first Fiat ads my initial impression was ummmmm… wow, if you have testicles you must sign them over when purchasing this car. I figured it came with a 35,000 mile warranty and a fifty dollar gift certificate to Bath and Bodyworks. The Arbath shows that they realize men buy cars too. Actually, we buy MORE cars. Oh, and we like them to go fast and we don’t want J-Lo’s music blasting out of our stereos while men covered in glitter twirl glowsticks merrily prancing alongside. The Venom edition is aimed at GTI and Cooper buyers, and with that power to weight ratio, it could give them a run for their money. Am I interested? Yes. Will I buy one? Probably not. Simply based on the fact they “girlified” the model so badly upon introduction that it makes the Miata seem like a Boss 302.

  Actually, Frank, men buy more 500s than women, even with the base model.
  The Abarth is very competetive with the GTIs and Cooper “S”, and it is better quality.
  The Venom version will simply kick their butts; just as Abarths always have.

I hate these little cars. It’s a single white girl’s car that she’ll more than likely wreck within the first 6 months of owning it, has space for 1 and a half people (this is america where most men are averaging 6 inches or more taller and 50-80 lbs heavier than your standard 5’2″ 110 pound italian man) and no trunk space (I have a 2011 mustang gt and find it hard to fit more than 150 bucks worth of groceries in there). What are the crash ratings on this thing? I got sideswiped in my friends full size truck and that was brutal! I wanna see this thing in action against a 4500 lb suburban at 50 mph.. it’s time to look up youtube.

    I drive a 500 Sport in the Dallas/Fort Worth area daily. I feel very safe driving it here. I know that I can AOP (accelerate outta problems) so long as I maintain situational awareness. Give me 70+ more HP? Even better.
    
    As far as inside size, I am 6′, 185lb and like the ergonomics very much. I have taken 3 other good sized adults in it to lunch on several occasions. Four for a road trip, not so much.

I really want a little car, coopers and miatas look good enough, but the interior of the 500 is what first got my attention. I went to a dealership to sit in one to check out how reasonable it was and I fit in it extremely comfortably. Now this might not be difficult for the average man, but measuring in at 6’7 makes most cars difficult to fit in. When looking for a smaller car, the mini cooper is too small, chevy HHR (aside from being terrible) has a windshield that is so small I cant get low enough to see out of it without creating a dozen blind spots, Hell, I haven’t found a Jeep that has knee room.

I weighed the pros and cons on the Abarth and it would be sweet in Gotham but I’d be limited on my dead hooker space and that right there puts me back behind the wheel of my Ford Flex

I think this car will attract more women than men… I personally don’t feel attracted by it at all. I am wondering why people go crazy debating about this model. If they gave this car a telescoping steering column, I would be much more interested. Most economy car manufacturers seem to think that only average-height people drive economy cars; don’t forget about tall customers!

Although Abarth does look good in style, I notice that it is not very different from Fiat 500 itself. I am just a little bit worry to take car like this into the freeway. It should works fine in the city. I am not saying that the car is dangerous but I am saying that the other bigger cars are obviously big bullies on freeway.

  You Sir obviously have not taken much time to actually ready the specification of the U.S. spec Abarth compared to the everyday 500. Rather than list all the changes, not least of which was having some SRT folks help with the tuning of the Abarth and having twice the power and torque, it escapes me the types of things negative folks will use to say they won’t get one. All the while they haven’t taken time to actually find out about the differences. This car will be faster and have tons more torque through the power band. Much better suspension tuned for aggressive driving. Will it win any drag races? No. Will it be hella fun? Yes!

I currently own a 2011 MINI Cooper S and am seriously considering an ABARTH as a replacement (een though the MINI is just fine and only has 13k on her) . Is the Venomm a definite for 2013? It seems that it would compete with the JCW (John Cooper Works) version of the MINI. Since the JCW is quite expensive (30k to start)I was wondering if the Venom could be done for say 25k? I would wait if I knew this was definitely coming in 2013. I tend to doubt it would have 200hp though as some of the racing 500 ABARTH’s are at 180hp.

Previous toys were a 2009 MX-5 Miata a 2007 VW GTI and I now pilot a 2012 Hyundai Veloster which while a competent and very reliable car, is not up to snuff in the power department. I put a pre-order in for a Subaru BRZ and subsequently backed out due primarily because Subaru insists on 93 octane fuel (else some pinging might be encountered). Where I drive on trips (South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming) 93 octane is basically unobtainable.

I have test-driven the new Mini Coupe (not bad except the manual transmission version has rotten gearshift gating and the clutch engagement is atrociously abrupt). I am awaiting The Veloster Turbo which will address the power issue, but unfortunately, not the handling, a mistake on Hyundai’s part that if not rectified, will hurt Veloster Turbo sales. The cost of a decent multi-link rear suspension is not that great compared to the antiquated ‘twist-beam’ that the Veloster uses.

I have so far ignored the Fiat Abarth due mainly to its nonsensical use of a 5-speed manual transmission. Aisin makes an excellent 6-speed SMG (the one used in the Mini) and there is always the option of simply licensing the Audi/VW DSG dual-clutch technology, perhaps the fastest-shifting transmission on the planet. My GTI with the DSG was a joy to drive, especially in the Sport mode.

If, however, the Venom mods were to be available so that a US dealer-installed Venom could be obtained for under $26K, I might give the Fiat a serious look. Otherwise, unless Huyndai at least firms up the suspension and stiffens the rear sway bar, I will probably plunk for the base Mini Coupe with the SMG automatic.
