2012 Chevy Cruze – Not Your Typical Sedan Anymore.
For small and mid-size affordably priced sedans most car manufacturers have had a tough time delivering a car with style and substance. True they are not made to satisfy the hedonistic needs a sports car fulfills, but do they really have to be so dull? In fact, a lot of the automobiles in this category border on or are just plain boring. There, I said it! As a car enthusiast I appreciate design as well as a smooth ride and good gas mileage. The 2012 Chevy Cruze almost gets it right. While its sensible design is far from being enticing, it does not have the bland, sterile exterior of a particular car I can’t stand to look at (Toyota Camry). This car manages a decent design inside and out. Its exterior flows nicely from front to back and looks especially striking in red.

With an MSRP of $23,000 for the LTZ trim the 2012 Chevy Cruze is a great deal. This inconspicuous car from Chevrolet’s lineup may not be a head turner yet, but it comes with a hefty amount of features at no extra cost. Equipped with 4 wheel anti-lock brakes, convenient voice activated controls for your mobile phone, CD and MP3 player, and half a year free subscription to GMs OnStar Telematics System, the 2012 Chevy Cruze is a car one can easily grow to love. Their infamous OnStar system can assist you with remote door unlock, turn by turn navigation and crash response if you are ever involved in an accident. Additionally, it offers a roadside assistance warranty of 100,000 miles. Inside you will find front dual reclining bucket seats, comfortable back seating for 3 with sufficient leg room to make a road trip bearable. I was surprised by the generously sized a/c vents. Anyone who lives in hot weather will greatly appreciate this. Ill-designed vents have been a pet peeve of mine for a while and when I took a look inside it was one of the first things that caught my eye. Air conditioning vents fixation aside, I still don’t know what to make of the silver accents on the control panel of the 2012 Chevy Cruze. They remind me of the buttons of a boom box, a bit outdated. Maybe a gunmetal color would have been a more appropriate choice. Gas mileage is an estimated 26 mpg for drives around town and an impressive 38 mpg for highway driving. Its 4 cylinder engine gives you 138 hp and comes with a 6 speed automatic transmission. The car’s engineering team did a really good job of incorporating safety features as well, with head curtain airbags on the roof and side guard door beams for added protection.
The Final Verdict
While the 2012 Chevy Cruze has yet to reach its potential the car has a lot to give performance wise, more so than other cars in its price range. Hopefully its manufacturer will work out the weak exterior design for subsequent years and start giving the competition a run for their money.
